The Dominican Republic has expressed a strong interest in fostering robust cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on 22 April 2024 from Abu Dhabi. The stronger ties would be to combat climate change through clean energy initiatives.

Two senior officials from the Dominican Republic highlighted the potential for the UAE’s investments in renewable energy, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such a partnership, in an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi last week.

The DR has experience with severe urban flooding. Maybe it can share a thing or two about that too with the UAE.

I'm confused, was it not just a few weeks ago when the govt owned operators complained that people putting solar panels affects negatively to the country? Are solar panels then not renewable energy as per DR govt?

In EU, renewable energy is a big word and solar panels are promoted pretty strongly where ever you go...

"“Accelerated deployment of renewable energy would not only lower energy costs for consumers but also create new employment opportunities, stimulate economic activity, and help meet international climate commitments,” he added."

It was also in the news that govt owned operators complained that they are not able to sell enough energy and here he's promoting lower energy costs for consumers? Which one is it?

The news here is not very good from a journalistic standpoint. I can’t waste my brain energy reading these reports.
Indeed, Is the UAE going to send over feel good wind turbines and solar panels to the DR? Silly news with no content.

While the DR announces a new gas fired power plant to actually provide energy around the clock. Well, if the EDE's get out of the way.
