The Labor Day long weekend was wet over the majority of the Dominican Republic with 28 of the nation’s 31 provinces and the National District under some type of weather alert. Most of the North and East of the country, with the exception of Valverde and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), were under the Yellow Alert for urban flooding, river and stream flooding, and possible landslides. The rest of the nation was under a Green Alert, with the exception of the southwestern Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales provinces.

In the North, Puerto Plata was one of the most impacted regions with flooding. Mayor damages were also reported in La Vega and Greater Santo Domingo.

Traffic on the north side of Las Americas Expressway was affected by poor drainage and there was flooding in stretches causing major congestion and slow driving on Monday, 29 April 2024.
