Too Many Cars - what will the government do?

Nice car Windy. The 340 Mopar Superbees were decent muscle cars. The antichrist of dating was the Volkswagen Beetle. Tough reliable cars. I’m surprised I don’t see a few of them still on the DR roads. Cheap on gas and easy to repair. Mexico manufactured the originals for a while. The new...

Too Many Cars - what will the government do?

I’m ahead of the WEF, divorce and retirement being my main motivators. I own a lot less, have less responsibility and that makes me happier. I didn’t give up everything so my sister will have to deal with my small amount of crap when I pass. I don’t miss the crap. Just wish I still had my 1967...

President Abinader: DR will not take part in military intervention in Haiti

PC2. It’s my understanding the multinational forces comprised mainly of police, are there to assist the Haitian police establish law and order and are under the direction of the Haitian police. Thats what came out of the negotiations required by the Kenyan court before the Kenyan government...

Too Many Cars - what will the government do?

When I was a kid,we had a head on collision at slow speed on a dry dusty dirt road with my father’s 53. No seat belts and I came away unscathed. I was tucked in tightly in the front seat between my father and mother. My mother sustained some cuts when her face hit the windshield. Those cars...

Too Many Cars - what will the government do?

My father had a two tone green and white 53 Chevy Belaire 4 door, 283 cu.inch V8. I remember it well. Beautiful car. The hubcaps and lower chrome strip on this one are not original. His first car was an Oldsmobile with a straight eight engine. You could balance a nickel on the engine when it was...

Too Many Cars - what will the government do?

The number of vehicles on the DR roads is a symptom of a bigger problem. Overpopulation. Check out the DR population growth estimates. Current number is approximately 11.5 million. The annual growth rate is about 1%, about 100,000 more per year. Projected to be approximately 12.5 million by...

President Abinader: DR will not take part in military intervention in Haiti

Definitely the right man for the right time. Great business smarts, good political acumen, and tact. His previous pleas to the UN fell on deaf ears but they’re listening now.

President Abinader: DR will not take part in military intervention in Haiti

He’s smart enough to know nothing positive will happen in the short term in Haiti and something temporary may happen over the long term. He doesn’t want the DR military to get mired down in a costly long drawn out intervention and occupation. The potential cost and loss of DR military lives...

US continues to prepare for arrival of UN forces

Windy. I posted this a few days ago and I’ll do it one more time. $300 million US up front. $90 million US up front from Canada. Another $40 million up front through USAID. The current total is $430 million with promises of further funding. Closer to $500 million when funding from other...

Oh wow! More news from BBQ

Agreed. I get the impression the UN has thought of the DR as the default country for Haitian problems for many years.

Oh wow! More news from BBQ

Haiti is only a threat to itself. It could be a potential threat to other Caribbean countries, the US and Canada, if large numbers of Haitian refugees start arriving on their shores, bringing the violence and disease with them.

    Waiting for Kenyans to arrive?

Windy. The money has been promised and it will come. Haiti is a bottomless money pit and countries have been throwing money at its problems for years. The US and Canada are no different. It’s cheaper politically than sending in a US and Canadian occupying force.

    Waiting for Kenyans to arrive?

The Kenyans speak Kalashnikov, the international language of war lords, terrorists, and mercenaries. Not a difficult language to understand and a very effective way of getting your point across. Unfortunately it doesn’t leave much room for debate.

US continues to prepare for arrival of UN forces

I totally agree NSP. If the politicians who declared war were the first to be forced to go into combat there would be no wars.

US continues to prepare for arrival of UN forces

It’s big business Windy. A big chunk of the $500 million the US is contributing will be spent on US goods and services, weapons and ammunition from US industries, and other services from the US military complex. Doesn’t matter if US funds are spent to support the Ukrainians, Israelis, or...
