Dominican Republic`s Abinader looks set for first-round election win

He got his cedula in Santo Domingo. Then he voted for decades in Atlantic City. All the sudden they changed it to Patterson (election still held in AC, so it’s not that).

    Hard Rock Santo Domingo

Me too. I remember taking our kids to the one on 57th street in Manhattan about 35 years ago, there was the back half of a 50s car protruding above the entrance. It was one of the first restaurants. Today they’re into casinos. They took over Trump’s Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, and now Steve...

Dominican Republic`s Abinader looks set for first-round election win

I hope people actually went to vote and didn’t just stay home thinking it was going to be a landslide. Mr AE is grumbling because his voting place was arbitrarily switched from Atlantic City to Patterson. At least 2 hours away. Makes one wonder how/why that happens.

Give up Beef, Milk and now Coffee ?

I could live without it, I only drink one cup of espresso in the morning. Mr AE drinks it all day up until bedtime. This week he had to go for 2 stress tests, no caffeine for 12 hours prior. Cardiologist is over an hour away, he left at 7 am. Before he left, he filled a thermos with espresso so...

Dominican Republic as a model of economic success.

I personally am surprised that Abel has done so poorly in polls. Mr AE thinks it’s because he’s tainted by the PLD. One has to wonder if he regrets resigning as Santiago mayor, where he did so well and was so popular.

Dominican Republic as a model of economic success.

Most who follow Dominican politics would say David Collado or Carolina Mejia. By 2028 there may be others.

Moving back to DR (north coast) when I retire: do or don't

We have our own well, but we also have a cistern and a huge tinaco on the roof, because if there’s no electricity there’s no well pump (unless we connect the generator). A lab tested our water awhile ago, said it’s potable, but we buy bottled water for drinking and cooking (and then filter the...

    Roofing Opinions Please

Okay, his latest suggestion is to put down pressure treated plywood, then a torched down rubber roof. Thoughts as to sustainability, upkeep (if any)?? We’ve kind of dismissed shingles, it’s windy there and they’d probably get loose soon.

Learned something new, never heard of that. I’ve also never made chili, haha. I’ve probably made about 1000 pounds of beans over the last 48 years though.

    phone advice

Have you ever had one? I go back to DOS days, and I resisted Windows, then iPhones. I’m now a firm Apple owner. iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, they’re all connected and share. I once bought a dual sim phone to use in DR (android) but it was smashed there. I never did get used to it, and I didn’t...
