Former President Leonel Fernández affirmed on Monday, 22 April 2024 that President Luis Abinader’s government is manipulating the country’s crime and citizen insecurity statistics to hide information.
“We are observing in recent times, as a consequence of the increase in homicides, crimes, assaults, etc., a manipulation of statistics in the first quarter of each year from 2019 to 2023. In 2019, there were 242 homicides, in 2020, which fell to 241 due to the pandemic, in 2021, 283, in 2022, 306, in 2023, 324 deaths from homicides and in 2024, suddenly, it falls to 39,” said Fernandez.
“The first thing one notices is that there is a statistical inconsistency. Nothing falls so abruptly. There is something there that is being hidden. We call it statistical manipulation,” stated Fernández.
