Compañía de Electricidad San Pedro de Macorís (Energas) has received a 30-year concession for a US$222 mn natural gas-fired power project. The power plant would be the 130 MW Energas IV plant and would be built in Guayaanes, San Pedro de Macoris.

The combined cycle plant would be built at the Energas existing facility which is made up of three 100MW combined cycle units.

BNAmericas reports that by April 2025, natural gas-fired plants are expected to account for 39.25% of power generation in the Dominican Republic. The balance of production would come from coal 32.81%, solar 10.63%, fuel oil 6.81%, wind 4.98%, hydro 4.53% and biomass 0.98%.

a real solution to the problem, not wind chimes, and other fuzzy feel-good ideas.

For those that think natural gas is better than coal for power plants, think again:

Neither affects the climate, but they do affect the air quality.

Nope, See above links on why gas ain't better than coal.
Very interesting. I didn't know that leakage of gas was such a problem. Well, it seems the only solution is to eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, fossil fuels altogether, as soon as possible.

Not even a remote possibility of that happening any time soon.

Nations that need to develop need electricity for that. The options for them are primarily fossil fuels, secondarily from so called renewables and nuclear power isn't even on the list. That is the reality of developing nations and growing populations. Fossil fuel power plants aren't going anywhere. The DR is an example of why that is true.

"Renewables" is basically a political ideology. Petroleum will not be replaced in our lifetime.
