National District Mayor Carolina Mejía announced on 24 April 2024 upon swearing in for a second term the construction of the Paseo 30 de Mayo and expansion of Malecón Sports areas on the southwestern side of the Caribbean Sea boulevard.

The first phase of the Malecon Deportivo was delivered in December 2023 and has been very popular with city residents. It encompasses sports facilities on the seaside of the Malecon from Avenida Núñez de Cáceres to Avenida Luperón on the western side. The area is a protected area known as the Parque Nacional Litoral Sur.

The sea-fronting park areas are transforming public spaces into areas where people can go for leisurely walks. People of all ages engage in sports and recreational activities.

The announcement consolidates the Malecon as a main attraction for tourists and residents in the capital city. Earlier this year...

Somehow I missed that the no-tell motel had been halted for now. I hope it stays that way.

All of these gaudy flashy neon signs need to go too.
