The people and companies that created financial schemes and led the operations that would have resulted in more than RD$19 billion in fraud against the Dominican state have been removed from the charges, El Dia reports. The charge presented by the Administrative Corruption Prosecution (Pepca) says that a large portion of the funds secured through the financial schemes were then used for the presidential campaign of former Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo in 2020.

El Dia reports that the prosecutors are not placing charges against Ramon Emilio Jimenez Collie, Bolivar Ventura, Fernando Crisostomo, Jose Arturo Ureña nor companies they may have used to commit the fraud against the Dominican state.

Another one. Angel Lockward returns 200 MILLION pesos

Five lawyers involved in the Operation Squid case increased their assets “exorbitantly” in a few months during 2020, through the falsification of public and private documents and money laundering, according to the accusatory file of the largest corruption case investigated in the last four years.

The siblings Ana Linda and Emir José Fernández, both older adults, benefited from 1.5 billion pesos and paid almost the same amount in bribes to government officials, according to the file.

Another accused lawyer, Ángel Lockward Mella, admitted his responsibility in embezzling the State and is collaborating with the Public Ministry. Between December of last year and March 2024, he "voluntarily" returned 220 million pesos to the Attorney General's Office, according to the accusation presented in April by the Special Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca).

The alleged scam occurred in the last months of the government of former President Danilo Medina, when billions of pesos were paid for properties declared of public utility. Among the accused are also the former Ministers of Finance, Donald Guerrero; Administrative of the Presidency, José Ramón Peralta; of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, and 40 other individuals and legal entities.

All you have to do is read between the lines on that statement. $1.5mm in and back out again. Not a very smart move.
